The broad, flattened, vase-shaped crown is formed by horizontally spreading, overhanging branches. 'Shirotae' is a moderate grower with a height of 4 - 6 m and a width of approx. 8 - 10 m. The elongated oval leaves have a pointed top and emerge light green, turning darker in the summer. The autumn colour is light yellow, the leaf edge deeply serrated. In late April, early May the tree produces large white flowers with an almond scent. The double, sometimes semi-double or single flowers bloom for 1.5 to 2 weeks. Flower diameter approx. 5 cm.
