The ovoid to elongated leaves are soft green and turn a bronzy red and orange-yellow in the autumn. The leaves are lighter green on the underside. The top is long and tapers to a point and the leaf edge has single teeth tapering to a point. 'Village Green' is unsusceptible to Dutch elm's disease. Due to its slower growth and narrower crown, this cultivar is better suited than the species for streets and avenues.
