A medium-size tree with a dense, round to broad vase-shaped crown and a height of 6 - 12 m. The young twigs are glossy brown and slightly hairy, but rapidly become hairless. The old bark is brown-grey and peels in small plates, although the orange bast is less prominent than it is on Bosque. The ovate to elliptical leaf has a maximum length of 5 cm. In summer it is glossy dark green and in autumn it turns dark orange to red. It only falls in late autumn. The tree blossoms in September with clusters of inconspicuous green flowers, followed by red seeds enclosed in wings. The parents of ‘Dynasty’ were created under an older Japanese crossbreeding programme. Its good resistance to Dutch elm disease makes it worth considering as a park and avenue tree. It has a great adaptability to various soil types, tolerates drought, a lot of warmth and is wind resistant.
