Large, vigorously growing tree, to approx. 16 m. Pyramidal to oval crown, but because the branches droop somewhat when older, the tree is eventually quite wide. Year-old twigs are brown-green and older bark is brown and slightly grooved. Its relatively large, glossy dark green leaf turns yellow in autumn. ‘Homestead’ was developed by the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington as a result of complex crossbreeding. It has a good to very good resistance to Dutch elm disease and fungal infections. It is hardy and can be used in industrial areas. Not suitable for narrow spaces.
Ulmus 'Homestead' can eventually reach a height of 15-20 m, fast growing, depending on the site and climate conditions.

The right time to plant Ulmus 'Homestead' is during the dormancy period. In Western Europe, Ulmus 'Homestead' with root balls can generally be planted from mid-November to late April, although this depends strongly on the climatic conditions and the species of tree.
