Ulmus hollandica 'Groeneveld' is a tree with dense foliage and a broad ovoid crown, attaining a height of 12 - 15 m. The crown is broad at the bottom and hangs over: the end shoots are more ascending. It is a slow grower with a regular manner of growth, often forming more than one top. The grey twigs are tough and hairy. The oval-round leaves measure 5 - 8 cm, are dull dark green and emerge early. The tree flowers before the leaves appear. Shows little sensitivity to Dutch elm disease. Winter hardiness zone: 5a
