Large tree with an oval crown, 15 to 20 m. The branches grow steeply upwards. Initially the crown is columnar but eventually becomes oval. Young twigs are green and brownish red on the sunny side. The leaf emerges bright yellow, turning fresh greenish-yellow later in the summer. The underside is covered with soft grey-white hair. The flowers are in pendent corymbs and open in June and early July. They are cream-coloured, very fragrant and attract many bees. This ancient German cultivar spent a long time forgotten. Suitable for parks, avenues, streets and squares.
