Prunus 'Royal Burgundy' grows into a sturdy tree with a broad vase-shaped crown. Height 6 - 8 m. 'Royal Burgundy' occurred as a sport (mutation) in P. serrulata 'Kanzan'. A remarkable difference with 'Kanzan' is that the leaves of 'Royal Burgundy' are purple-red. In the autumn they turn to reddish orange. The flowers are also somewhat darker purplish-pink than those of 'Kanzan'. The tree is planted in parks, avenues and green verges. Winter hardiness zone: 6
