A cultivar that remains narrower and smaller than the species. 'Pyramidalis' has a narrow pyramidal crown that later turns vase-shaped and attains a height of 15 - 20 m. Later the lower branches hang down somewhat but the crown always remains narrow. The grey-green bark flakes off less than that of the species and has a rougher appearance. The leaves are broader than they are long and are slightly hairy on the underside. In the autumn the leaves turn colour to a brownish yellow. Fallen leaves do not rot easily. Plane trees are very resistant to hard surfaces but surface roots can push the surrounding paving upwards. Takes pruning very well, even in old wood. Young branches break relatively easily. Winter Winter hardiness zone: 6a
