Small tree with densely branched, compact, pyramidal crown of 5 - 6 m. Young twigs are bright green, mature bark is green-brown and smooth. The leaves are ovate to broadly elliptical and very glossy dark green. The margins are very undulate, with 2 - 6 strong, sharp prickles on each side. The flowers are small and fairly inconspicuous. This male cultivar does not bear fruit. Can be regarded as ‘counterpart’ of the female Alaska. Prefers a humic, moist but well-drained soil and tolerates either acidic or calcareous soil. Also suitable for use as a hedge.
