Fraxinus pennsylvanica 'Urbanite' is an American selection with a closed, spreading pyramidal crown. It can attain a height of 15 - 18 m. The bark is brown grey. The leathery, odd-pinnate leaves are shiny dark green and turn brown-red to bronze-red in autumn. After the inconspicuous greenish flowers in May/June, sometimes winged fruits (keys) appear. Useful as a park and avenue tree for wide road profiles. Prefers dry, not too poor soil and tolerates urban climates well. Winter hardiness zone: 4
