Big, graceful tree with undulately rising central leaderes, from which the lateral branches hang straight down. The lateral branches eventually reach the ground. Growth pattern same as ‘Pendula’ but remaining more slender. The oval to ovate leaves are initially somewhat larger than typical of the species. They emerge a beautiful golden yellow, turning more yellow-green in summer. The leaf is somewhat susceptible to sunburn. In autumn they turn brownish yellow. The blossom and fruits are the same as other F. sylvatica: inconspicuous flower catkins followed by 1 - 2 cm nuts in cupules covered with brush-like spines. ‘Aurea Pendula’ is a decorative tree with beautifully coloured foliage. It prospers in well-drained, humic soil that is not too wet. Moderately wind resistant.
