Grows from a shrub into a multi-stemmed tree up to about 8 m, with a broad, oval crown. The leaf is dark green on top and blue-green on the underside, with a slightly undulate leaf margin. The autumn colour is reddish purple. Each flower head is surrounded by four white, freestanding to slightly overlapping bracts. The flower clusters remain on the plant for very long, often about 6 weeks. When the first characteristically red, strawberry-like fruits form, the last flowers are often still on the tree. The plant is shallow rooting with a fibrous root system and requires humic soil, which is not too dry.
