Graceful, medium-size tree with a regular, pyramidal crown. The bark starts to peel when young. The older bark is a pinkish orange-brown and profusely peeling. The dark green leaves turn an attractive butter yellow in autumn, remaining on the tree for about one month longer than with B. nigra. It blossoms early and the long, male catkins are very conspicuous. ‘BNMTF’ was selected for its better tolerance to heat and drought than the comparable B. nigra. In addition, the tree has a nicely regular crown shape.
Betula nigra DURA HEAT ('BNMTF') can eventually reach a height of 10 - 15 m, depending on the site and climate conditions.

The right time to plant Betula nigra DURA HEAT ('BNMTF') is during the dormancy period. In Western Europe, Betula nigra DURA HEAT ('BNMTF') with root balls can generally be planted from mid-November to late April, although this depends strongly on the climatic conditions and the species of tree.
